Our strategy
There are many people and organizations pursuing a flourishing Long Beach. We focus on two things: mobilizing Grace to serve Long Beach, and catalyzing city movements.
Mobilizing Grace to serve Long Beach
Individually, members of the congregation quietly serve in their own neighborhoods or work, or volunteer with strategic non-profits and/or governmental agencies (such as Memorial Hospital and LBUSD).
Corporately, we have adopted three arenas (children at risk, the sick, and the elderly) as our focus for the next five years (until 2013).
Catalyze city movements
Working together, our gifts accomplish more. God's design is that churches come together in unity for the good of the city (John 17:21). God's "common grace" is also displayed throughout society, in the gifts of non-profits, associations, schools, businesses, and government.
To accomplish this, we:
- Create space for connections. There are few places where leaders can build relationships without being asked to join a project or program. We build sandboxes for Christian leaders where they learn to play together.
- Train church leaders in the greater Long Beach area. We consult with churches individually, host an Externally Focused roundtable, and lead an annual day of service that encourages churches to look outside the walls of their congregation.
- Join/build collaborations around common causes. In addition to our work with non-profit partners, we work with convening/training organizations such as Kingdom Causes and the Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership.
- Support entrepreneurs. From church-planters to creative new non-profits, we value the myriad expressions of mission manifested by followers of Jesus in Long Beach.
