What is the relationship between Hope for Long Beach and Grace Brethren Long Beach?

HfLB was formed in 2002 as part of Grace Brethren Long Beach. While Grace Brethren's pastors minister to the church's congregants, HfLB was conceived as an outward-looking component to help church members serve the city by assisting the marginalized and building relationships with other community organizations. HfLB's operational budget is funded by contributions from church members.

Who leads Hope for Long Beach?

Director and pastor Eric Marsh runs the day-to-day operations. An advisory board composed of Grace members, along with Grace's senior pastor Lou Huesmann, contribute to setting HfLB's vision.

Do you partner with non-Christian groups?

Yes. In addition to churches, we work with public organizations such as schools and non-Christian non-profits.

What exactly do you do in Long Beach?

Pastor Eric recruits church volunteers and build relationships with other community organizations in Long Beach. Our events include occasional large-scale events like an annual public Halloween carnival, and dozens of recurring events, such as monthly dinners with HIV patients, visits to senior centers, and student mentoring. We partner with many organizations throughout the city, though in general, we focus on three areas of need: at-risk children, the elderly and the sick.
